Mercedes-Benz is expanding its comprehensive charging ecosystem and, together with The Mobility House Energy, launching an intelligent bidirectional charging offer in Germany. With MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent, Mercedes-Benz customers can, for the first time, not only charge their all-electric vehicles but also actively integrate them into the energy system – earning money with their electric vehicle in everyday use. As part of this integrated ecosystem, customers receive a coordinated package comprising an interoperable bidirectional DC wallbox and the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Pro Eco tariff. The Mercedes-Benz Charge Home app provides a clear overview of charging sessions, electricity fed back into the grid and the resulting credits.
The bidirectional charging offer will launch in Germany with the all-electric GLC and the new C-Class. Shortly afterwards, it will be extended to many other Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, including the VLE, GLA, EQS, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake and GLB. Depending on the vehicle model, bidirectional charging will be activated via an over-the-air update after market launch. The offer is also planned for other selected markets.2
Exclusive introductory offer for bidirectional charging at home
At launch, the first 500 Mercedes-Benz customers in Germany to sign up will benefit from an introductory offer available until the end of March 2027: they will receive the ChargeLine BiDi bidirectional wallbox from The Mobility House for €1,990 instead of the regular price of €2,990. In addition, customers are rewarded for every hour their vehicle is connected to the wallbox at home, regardless of whether it is charging, discharging or on standby. Customers who plug in their vehicle for an average of twelve hours a day can currently expect an annual bonus of more than €5003. With regular use, the wallbox can pay for itself within four years. The first 500 customers to sign up will also receive a €250 voucher for public charging with MB.CHARGE Public. Once the introductory offer ends, remuneration will be based on the terms and conditions applicable at the time.
Open standards for maximum compatibility
The bidirectional 11 kW DC wallbox is designed for home use and supports charging for all electric vehicles with 400- and 800-volt technology. Over-the-air updates allow it to adapt to new technical requirements. Mercedes-Benz is the first car manufacturer in the world to offer a market-ready bidirectional charging solution in Germany based on open, standardised technologies. The aim is to ensure a high degree of interoperability between Mercedes-Benz vehicles capable of bidirectional charging, charging infrastructure and compatible energy management systems. To this end, Mercedes-Benz uses open standards such as ISO 15118-20.
"For us, bidirectional charging is the next logical step in electric mobility. We are transforming the vehicle from a mere consumer of electricity into an active part of the energy system. This brings together innovative vehicle technology and more efficient use of renewable energy, creating lasting value for our customers and the energy infrastructure alike."
Jörg Bartels,
Head of Powertrain Systems at Mercedes-Benz AG
"An electric car is more than a vehicle – it is the battery storage system of the future. Together with Mercedes-Benz, we are making bidirectional charging practical for everyday use. Mercedes-Benz customers will be able to earn money with their vehicles and reduce their energy costs. At the same time, they will help ease the strain on the electricity grid and protect the climate."
Thomas Raffeiner,
CEO of The Mobility House
Intelligent charging supports the energy transition
Intelligent charging creates value for customers while supporting the energy transition. A joint analysis by The Mobility House Energy and Mercedes-Benz shows that just two million vehicles capable of bidirectional charging in Germany could prevent almost half of today’s renewable energy curtailment and reduce electricity system costs by hundreds of millions of euros. This would help integrate renewable energy and enable lower electricity costs in the long term.
Further information on the Mercedes-Benz intelligent and bidirectional charging offer is available at MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent.
[1] In addition to the interoperable bidirectional DC wallbox and the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Pro Eco tariff offered, V2G requires the MB.CHARGE Home Digital Extra and a smart meter. Use of the offer may be subject to market-specific conditions relating to legislation and energy supplier requirements. To use the Digital Extras, you must create a Mercedes me ID and accept the current versions of the Terms of Use for Digital Extras and the Mercedes me ID Terms of Use. The relevant vehicle must also be linked to your user account. Once the limited term expires, the Digital Extras can be renewed for a fee, provided they are still offered for the vehicle in question.
[2] Activation of the “Pre-installation for MB.CHARGE Home Pro” Digital Extra is required.
[3] The actual bonus depends on the vehicle’s availability for bidirectional charging and increases or decreases according to how long it is plugged in.
