Storage Containers from Vehicle Batteries: Key to the Energy Transition
Several storage systems consisting of over 1,800 vehicle batteries with a total capacity of 70 MW were implemented at four locations in collaboration with storage manufacturers FENECON and NIDEC. These systems were marketed using a multi-market trading strategy across various power and energy markets in Germany and France.

Large-Scale Storage Provides Primary Control Reserve
Together with Mercedes-Benz Energy as system integrator, GETEC Energie, and Enervie, a former coal power plant in Elverlingsen was transformed into a "living spare parts warehouse." As early as 2016, a storage system with 2,000 battery modules and 29 MW of power was put into operation and prequalified for primary control reserve (PCR). In 2024, its lifecycle was extended by another five years. In total, more than 900 Daimler batteries are available for marketing at several locations across Germany.
Electric Cars Power Amsterdam Stadium
Since 2018, together with integrator EATON, we have been replacing diesel generators with a 3 MW battery system powered by 148 second-life batteries from Nissan Leaf vehicles, while also enhancing grid stability across Europe. With a capacity of 2.8 MWh, the system stores energy from 4,200 solar panels and serves as an emergency power supply during major events, including football matches and concerts. In the meantime, the batteries are marketed on the energy markets.

Four-Figure Euro Revenues in Vehicle-to-Grid Pilot Project
Together with Audi, a six-month field study at the EUREF Campus in Berlin investigated the market potential of aggregated electric vehicle batteries. In the first half of 2022, each battery generated annual revenues in the four-figure euro range. The goal was to demonstrate the revenue potential of electric vehicles in short-term electricity trading on the EPEX Spot under real-world conditions. Since 2022, VG1 and V2G pilot projects have been conducted in a real-world laboratory.

Large-Scale Storage in Co-Location with Solar Plant
In collaboration with the IFES Institute for Energy Storage, under the direction of renowned Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Sterner, the project represents a leap forward in storage technology: Two Fenecon Industrial L storage systems in co-location with a solar plant near Regensburg. The flexibility of the storage system is made available to short-term and balancing power markets.
